Liquidity Mining?

Unless you have been living under a rock these past few months, you must have heard of this recent craze that we call DeFi - Decentralized Finance. In a nutshell, DeFi is about bringing financial instruments to the blockchain. Blockchains (e.g. Bitcoin or Ethereum) digitized money, and are now digitizing anything related to money (lending, borrowing…).

One of the key factors which led to the DeFi rise is the development of Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs) - like Idex or Ddex - which allow users to be in full control of their assets while trading - opposed to Centralized Exchanges (CEXs) like Paymium or Coinbase - where users trust a company with their funds.

The very last DEX evolution gave birth to a new type of exchange: Automatic Market Makers (AMMs) such as Uniswap or Balancer. Put simply, a smart-contract is performing the entire transaction between two users’ wallets in an open, permissionless and non-custodial way.

In order to make it work, users need to provide liquidity (meaning locking up crypto-assets) to the smart-contract - in the same way as a CEX order book needs to be filled with liquidity to allow efficient trading. But how would you incentivize users to provide liquidity to a smart-contract?

The response is: Token Rewards and trading fees revenue!

Uniswap rewards their liquidity providers with their native UNI tokens and Balancer with BAL tokens. Rewards are proportional to the share of liquidity each user is providing. The more liquidity you provide, the higher the reward. That’s why receiving tokens in exchange of your funds mobilization is called liquidity mining.

On top of these native rewards in UNI and BAL, we decided to add BCIO rewards on a weekly basis to all liquidity providers. Two random snapshots of the addresses providing liquidity to the pools will be taken during the week at a random time. BCIO rewards will be distributed subsequently.

BCIO Liquidity Mining Programs

At Paymium & Blockchain.io we are always eager to experiment. This is why we launched liquidity pools on both Uniswap and Balancer.
